This year 24 members and 2 guests met in Braemar for the annual
“bash”. We were blessed with very cold weather with snow and
wind thrown in for luck..
Three of us went up early to the caravan and grabbed a Corbett,
Ben Vurich, on the way across to Deeside. We had a hard day on
unconsolidated snow and heather but were blessed with gorgeous
weather. On Friday the skiers skinned up two of the Glenshee
Munros, while Bob went round faster on foot! The main party
assembled in the Fife Arms during the evening.
Very little climbing was done due to the poor snow conditions,
but various objectives were achieved on Sat. One party did Glas
Tulaichen in Arctic conditions, the GPS proving useful. Another
group went up Morrone, others explored Glen Muick.
The dinner on Saturday night, in the “Taste Restaurant” was its
usual convivial self, the buffet proving very popular.
Piste skiing was popular on Sunday, but some were more
adventurous and skinned up an unknown hill near Lochnagar! A
lucky few stayed on for Monday and a ski ascent of Glas
Tulaichen was made.
Although the meet was booked up well in advance there were a
number of cancellations so we could have accommodated a few
more. It always pays to check if you want to come.
Bernard.
