We urgently need to raise over £3000 from climbers back pockets to complete the work at Scout Scar and Runestone before we publish the new Wired guide "Lakes Sport and Slate" with the FRCC late spring 2020. All Donations go towards equipment and bolts for new routes and replacing old dangerous bolts throughout Cumbria. There are over 50 new routes planned each costing between £80-£100 and many old dangerous routes still to re-bolt. To date we have managed to fund bolts for the Limestone at Scout Scar, Mill Side, Chapel Head, Humphrey Head, the slate at Moss Rigg, The Works, Cathedral, Tilberthwaite, Thrang and Runestone Quarry and the sandstone at St Bees & Coudy Rocks. There is a team of 15 - 20 climbers giving up days and days of their time to complete this vital work. Please reach in your pockets so this work can continue. As such I am now in the unenviable position of cancelling all forthcoming meets until further notice. We are also going to close the huts for the foreseeable future, and cancel all upcoming external bookings. Please do not use the huts at all during this period, we will be reopen when it is safe to do so. I’m really sorry to have to do this, but in light of government advice this is the only real course of action the club can take. Please support each other during this difficult time as I am sure you will. A frequent call with those who are most at risk and having to stay isolated would go a long way. ... View on facebook 3 years ago Photos from Ian Phillips's post Weatherlam Sunday 15 December Relatively good weather was quite a surprise after the previous few days. Despite large pile-up on M61 which closed motorway around Chorley managed to get a later start from Tilberthwaite and up onto Weatherlam Edge. Lots of deep snow on the Edge made route finding interesting. Strong winds on the top meant a late lunch lower down but all in all a good day out: high cloud, low sun & fantastic light. Back to Tilberthwaite just as the light was fading. ... Its been a very mixed year with the very sad loss of a dear friend, and a couple of unfortunate accidents. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year from the WW's. ... We have now been in touch with Louis Kennedy and Ellie. So grateful ❤️ On Wednesday 28th August 2019 we lost our very special Grandfather and Father, Brian Guilfoyle, in a mountaineering accident. He was walking Sharp Edge on Blencathra (Saddleback) in the Lake District at the time. Our whole family are so grateful to all the people who tried to help him, including his friends, the emergency services and other walkers who were there. We have been informed that a young couple in their early 20’s risked their own safety to reach Brian down the mountain to attend to his aid. For this we want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts but as we were not at the scene ourselves we do not know their names or anywhere that we can find them. We would like to ask everyone to share this post in the hope that they just might see it, so that we can thank them properly and show our gratitude for their courageous efforts. Thank you so much. Love Louise, Rowney and Eva ❤️ ... See more View on facebook « ‹ 1 of 5 › »
